Waiting out Covid-19 in Muskoka…Part 2

Safe Grocery Shopping

I love to cook. I’m considered a good cook by Mr. H and my family and friends. I often have large crowds for lunch and dinner at the cottage. I often host the holidays. But I don’t think I have ever spent so much time thinking about cooking my next meal. Sound familiar. This pandemic has me plotting and playing online grocery roulette every day. So I am coming to find myself an expert in this area and I want to share my Muskoka finds.

First, a big thank you to all of you who are keeping us fed and safe. I want to recognize all those who work at grocery stores and food purveyors for coming to work everyday. I try to make a point to say “thank you” every time I am in a grocery store or order by phone. Thank you for coming to work seems the least we can say.

Gagnon’s Independent Grocer Bracebridge

I want to give a shoutout to this store. They are my go-to for all the staples you need. When you arrive you pick up a cart that has been sanitized and are given a briefing by an attendant at the door who explains the safety rules inside. The isles are clearly marked with arrows and at the check out there are clearly marked footsteps six feet apart. In addition to groceries which are well stocked right now, you can also pick up the current Joe Fresh clothes to restock your wardrobe.

Stephens Butcher Shop – Port Carling

A phone call to Morley Stephens Butcher Shop in Port Carling and you can place your order for the best steaks, lamb burgers, butterflied and marinated turkey breast (I don’t find this as good anywhere else), fresh fish, baked goods and much much more. Now you know what was on my list! I called ahead and placed my order and it was sitting outside at the appointed time for us to pick up. Best quality, nicest people, and easy, safe pick up.

Rosseau General Store – Town of Rosseau

You can email or call Laurie at the Rosseau General store and she will put your order together and put it curbside in their signature paper bags for the time you want to pick up. I order fresh vegetables, staples, pies, cookies and have picked up puzzles and games for the kids. They also have the best coffee, from Muskoka Roastery and other local coffee suppliers. My favs from their butcher include the turkey breakfast sausages which are above and beyond delicious. You can etransfer payment, making it a totally easy and safe pickup.
