Muskoka community, let’s rally to help our own

Our fabulous Muskoka community is dependant on seasonal workers and yes, even our own kids have worked locally each summer. So here’s a story that strikes close to our lake homes and our hearts. Help is being sought for 23  Port Carling Turtle Jack’s employees who lost everything in a fire that destroyed their housing on Thursday night.

“The Muskoka Lakes Fire Department was called (Thurs 9:30 pm) to a structure fire at 2a West Street. Station 6, Port Carling and Station 1, Foot’s Bay/Glen Orchard were called to battle the inferno. On arrival the roof was fully involved. Fire crews made entry to conduct a search for any people inside. Fortunately, nobody was found. The estimated loss is $250,000.”

This building was the house to over 20 of our seasonal staff members at Turtle Jacks, coming from both near and far to enjoy their summer in Port Carling. As a result, many of our hardworking team members are left with nothing and are seeking the support of anyone who is able to get them back on their feet.”

A Go Fund Me campaign is being supported by our local community and you can easily donate at

We are told by Turtle Jack’s that the biggest needs right now are clothes and air mattresses. If you can help please donate or contact: 705 765-1753
