Some highlights to help you plan…

Muskoka Chautauqua

The Chautauqua movement has a long history in Muskoka. At the turn of the 20th century, Muskoka was known as Canada’s Literary Summer Capital. In the years 1916 and 1917 conferences were held at Windermere House and Elgin House to provide study, sport and spiritual uplift.

This weekend, Muskoka Chautauqua Canada Day celebrations include the opportunity to join their Artists in Residence for hands-on arts activities for the whole family. Taking place at Clevelands House Resort, 1040 Juddhaven Road, Minett on July 1.

CanadaDayQuilt

Muskoka Chautauqua also features Artist in Residence programs this summer at Clevelands House and the Baldwins in Windermere. Art workshops and art parties with professional artists at both locations.

Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville

Weekend long activities for Deerhurst guests include:

  • Canada Day Weekend Fireworks Saturday & Sunday
  • The long standing tradition of a giant Canada Day birthday cake … in the lake!
  • Canada Day Weekend Family Patio Party at Maple
  • New Cable Park Wakeboard and Waterski Demos
  • Fireside Jam with Live Music

Santa’s Village, Bracebridge

Ok, I’ll admit it seems a little bizzaro world to go to Santa’s Village on Canada Day, but on July 1st, they have Marvel’s Spiderman & Iron Man Meet & Greet from 10:a.m. to 6 p.m. This in addition to all the rides (my kids always loved Rudolph’s roller coaster) and now there is Muskoka Zip Lines and Aerial Park along side.

Bala 40th Annual Craft + Gift Fair and Bala Antique and Nostalgia Show

Both take place this weekend in Bala from June 30 to July 1…nuff said.  Other than I will be stopping by Don’s Bakery to pick up a pie or four.
