An August long weekend tradition is Muskoka Rocks a fun road race for those who are training or for those who want to do a great family run. There is a 10K, a 5K run/walk and a magical kids 1k on August 6. This is a timed run so you can take it fast or take it slow and easy. All registrants get a t-shirt and there are water and Gatorade stations along the route and food to nourish you after the fact. In aid of a good cause: all of the proceeds go to Camp Oochigeas, a Muskoka-based camp for kids with cancer. Muskoka Rocks starts at Peninsula Recreation Centre, Juddhaven Road, Minett and the route runs along Juddhaven. A word to the wise runner: if you’re planning to train in advance…do hill training!
Here’s what Camp Ooch says about Muskoka Rocks: The heart of Camp Oochigeas (Ooch) lives in Muskoka, within the people and the landscape that do so much to help nurture our campers. Thanks to Lynn and Laurel, the Muskoka Rocks Road Race builds awareness about the work of Camp Ooch and celebrates giving kids with cancer what they need – the chance to be a kid!
The Muskoka Rocks Road Race has been a valued partner and friend of Ooch for the last 14 years. We are incredibly grateful to Lynn, Laurel and the Muskoka community for their dedication and enthusiasm. Because of people like you we have the ability to share the Magic of Ooch (video) with over 450 kids each summer.
You can still register for Muskoka Rocks, but it caps out at 500 so sign up today. http://www.muskokarocks.ca/
